saGuijo at 4

Hello. The weekend was full of shit.

Just kidding.

I was up for two straight nights covering saGuijo’s 4th Anniversary party. Not to undervalue myself or anything, but really, I’d do anything if I think it’s fun and exciting and is graced by the presence of free beer. So, I said LOL MKAY to Geoff of Odysseylive.net when he asked me to shoot in exchange for fun and exciting and beer and other good stuff that would come along the way.

Day 1, or the first half-felt Urbandub set ever

What happened during Urbandub’s set only came back to me through my photos. I saw this photo I took of John while in mid-air and couldn’t remember what song it was. I’ve always felt excited listening to and shooting them, but this time it felt like the shooting part took the better of me. I could hardly listen as my eyes were on the move and I was constantly fighting for space. I had my bestfriends and boyfriend come over. They ended up spending half the night in the streets or in other nearby place. Although they were not new to crowded gigs (and they knew how to get smashed in the weirdest of places anyway), I still couldn’t help but think how the night could have been more fun for them if they actually got to see what was happening inside.

I heard about 300 fucking people tried to fit in that night.

More sweating, less drinking and listening. At least for me.

saGuijo felt strange for a moment. I felt isolated despite the intimacy that that small place offered. I don’t know, maybe it’s just my getting used to being with someone, which would have been kind of impossible that time given that the kind of work I had to do required me to be mobile and slinky. I’ve always liked going to gigs alone, but not on this night. I guess because it wasn’t one of those nights that I can just ditch if I find someone better to be with, when I don’t have to stay until the last song is played.

Day 2, or entertaining the thought of doing this for the next couple of years

Note that I did have an awesome Day 1—except I was getting the hang of things and was a bit conscious of myself. JUST. A. BIT. Finally on Day 2, when I found the right timing and balance to chug down 4 beers and stand up straight to shoot, did I have fun. I could work and move more freely since the floor was more controlled.

Day 2 got down to a hassle-less program, the guys of Giniling Festival pausing halfway a song to do some stunts while posing for my camera, and a heart-stopping four-track performance by Taken By Cars that caught me dancing.

Now I want Nachos.
