The weekend in numbers (Part 2 of 2)

Done and upcoming daily happenings that deserve to be blogged about:

Firsts - DONE
It’s been what, 2 years now since I began showing up in bars and music places in the Metro, following shows produced and/or participated by what could be one of the most organized events and productions group around. The name is Sonic Boom. Charing.

Sonic Boom’s debut participation in Rock Ed Philippineshttp://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=37591010674">Rock The Riles, a yearly closing party celebrated simultaneously with International Human Rights’ Day, was dubbed as, wait, because words escape me, I turn to and quote RockEd’s Gang Badoy, no? “P*tangina ito ang pinaka-astig na station!”

Made up everything except p*tangina and pinaka-astig na station. Sonic Boom’s roster of bands held the Buendia fort from 2 to 7, opening with Switch and closing with a shortened two-song set by Faspitch. The Out of Body Special’s set was cut halfway after the organizers realized that the station hasn’t waved the Philippine Flag and sung the anthem like any program should. Intolerant’s guitarman Joey Dizon’s impromptu Lupang Hinirang guitar solo stands as the most decent guitar solo someone could whip out in a matter of minutes. In my future totalitarian rule (in 2010. Also, register and vote.*), I would require all citizens to know how to play at least the melody of the National Anthem so that no one is excused from volunteering oneself in case the need to play the National Anthem arises.

Umh. It was wild.

5 hours - DONE and UPCOMING
Dani, Daisy, and I’s 5 hours of standing up (of course the option to sit down was present, except that my friends and I don’t sit), dehydration, and pig-sweating isn’t about to discourage you for next year’s Rock The Riles. If I can keep my word, I will not stop supporting cause-related events until the riles are improved enough that one has no need to sweat, stand, kill one’s back in order to see a live act. When the day that I can sit comfortably in those PNR, MRT, and LRT stations and trains, people, I know I have voted for the right leaders and I’m on my way to a better life.

I have no word on how the other 7 participating MRT stations fared, except probably for Plurk updates that kept bringing good news back from Ayala Station. Event a success, I guess.

* 2010 – UPCOMING
Registration for the 2010 National Elections begins December 2, 2008, to continue until December 15, 2009. Commission on Elections’ office hours are your regular 8:00 am to 5:00pm. The elections will be held on the second week of May. You don’t have to re-register if you presently have a voter’s ID, doh. (Source: http://www.gov.ph/news/?i=23009).
